Overview

Portals can be configured to be one of the following types:

•          No Registration (Open)
•          Secure
•          Personalized

No Registration(Open) - A portal of this type allows users to access knowledgebase(s) without login credentials (username and password) or any registration information. Users require only the portal URL.

Secure Portal - A portal of this type requires users to provide login credentials. KB Administrators create External Users and inform them about their login credentials, so that they can access the knowledgebase.
Personalized Portal - A portal of this type requires users to provide login credentials and enables KB administrators to customize the content viewed by each user. This results from giving an external user the combined access to:

•          Knowledge Base(s)
•          Article Group(s)

Note: The portal type option "Registration required" in the Admin Control Panel > Portal > New Portal is only supported in legacy portals.

Configuring Portal Type

1. Login to Portal Administration.
2. Click Edit in a portal's row in the Available Portals list.
3. Click Configuration.
4. Scroll to the lines:  
   <portal>  
   <globalSettings>  
   <!-Portal Types: no_registration, secure, personalized. 
5. Set the portal type as described in the table  "Portal Types".
6. Click Save.

Note: Articles must belong to an Article Group to which an external user has access permissions. If this is not set correctly an empty Portal is presented to the user after a successful login.
